Womad’s already jam packed line-up has grown, with New Zealand beat-maker Montell2099 joining the entertainment bill.
DJ Montell2099 is one of the most exciting new electronic music talents to emerge from Aotearoa in recent years and he’s set to close out the Gables Stage on the Saturday night of the award winning festival.
The DJ is known for mixing bubbling melodies, manipulating vocal snippets and booming bass hits, and his genre-bending releases.
He joins an already impressive line-up, that includes 28 cutting edge performers and world-class musicians from every corner of the globe.
Also new to the 2020 line-up is Stacey Morrison, who comes on board as the host of the OMV Taste the World stage. The popular segment has previously been hosted by the likes of celebrity chef Jax Hamilton and media personality Sonya Wilson.
Morrison is no stranger to Womad, having attended previous years with her husband Scotty Morrison who performed on stage with Moana and The Tribe in 2014.
Held in the delightful Kunming Garden, Taste the World is a delectable festival highlight where Womad’s international artists serve up their favourite dishes from their homelands.
Morrison says she is excited to share her love of kai with international artists and festival audiences, after hosting five seasons of her lifestyle and cooking show Whānau Living.
“I can’t wait to see artists from around the world step off the stage and into the kitchen,” she says.
“No doubt their joy at sharing delicious, fresh and unique recipes from their homelands will be contagious and leave Womad audiences hugely inspired.”
Also new to Womad 2020 is the Steam Lab – a new stage that invites you to step into a place of wonder, a place where Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) unite.
Hosted in Pinetum, inventors, innovators and people at the top of their fields will share their groundbreaking journeys of discovery.
Steam Lab’s inaugural line-up includes Dr Nicoline den Breems, Shayne Gooch, Dr Simon P Taylor, and Suranga Nanayakkara.
- Womad NZ 2020 is on March 13 to 15, 2020 at Brooklands Park and the TSB Bowl of Brooklands. For more information, the full stage schedule and for tickets, visit www.womad.co.nz
