Grammy Award winning musician Ben Harper is coming to New Plymouth this summer.
The US singer-songwriter will hit the stage with The Innocent Criminals at the TSB Bowl of Brooklands on Friday February 21.
Harper’s Taranaki concert has been years in the making, with the New Plymouth District Council’s events team first trying to secure the chart topping musician in 2012.
The three-time Grammy Award winning artist is famous for songs such as Steal My Kisses, Diamonds on the Inside, and With My Own Two Hands.
The Innocent Criminals have been playing with him since the early 1990s, during which he’s had hit after hit with his blend of blues, rock, reggae, soul, funk and folk.
New Plymouth district mayor Neil Holdom was already singing the praises of Harper, who has a penchant for beautiful outdoor venues like the Bowl.
“Ben Harper is all class, will appeal to all generations and I can’t think of a better venue to catch him live at, than in our picturesque and award-winning Pukekura Park,” Holdom said.
“There are few better ways to spend a summer’s evening than kicking back at our stunning Bowl with friends and family enjoying some good tunes.”
Harper has long had an affinity with New Zealand and is adorned with striking Maori tattoos. His Summer at the Bowl show is the first-stop in his five-date tour of Aotearoa, which includes concerts in Christchurch, Auckland, Napier and Tauranga.
The TSB Bowl of Brooklands has previously hosted performances from artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Cat Stevens, Elton John, Jack Johnson, Lionel Richie and Sinead O’Connor.
