Five budding young chefs cooked their hearts out last week, vying to win themselves a place in a national cooking competition.
The regional final of the NZ Chefs’ Kiwi Kids Can Cook competition was help at Witt and featured Greer Lock, Jack Williams, Eoin Ammundsen, Taine Lock and Chilee Brown.
The children each had 30 minutes to cook and present their favourite dish, which had to include at least one New Zealand grown vegetable.
Local chef Freddie Ponder and Palmerston North chef Grant Kitchen judged the event, which was organised by Witt faculty leader and NZ Chefs national vice president Angela Ferguson.
Three competitors earned themselves a place at the national finals in Auckland in August as part of the New Zealand Hospitality Championships.
“They all did a wonderful job and the skills they all demonstrated were fantastic,” Ferguson said.
“It’s always tough choosing the winners.
“Our judges selected Taine Lock as the winner of the junior category, and it was so close in the senior category that there were two winners selected to go to Auckland – Eoin Ammundsen and Greer Lock.”
