The sun will come out tomorrow thanks to the Hawera Repertory Society’s production of the classic Broadway show, Annie

This extremely entertaining and captivating show is filled with song, dance and comedy, and it’s a wonderful night out for all ages.

Annie, directed by Shaun Campbell, is a must see for the young, and the young at heart.

Annie (played by Niamh O’Sullivan on opening night) held her own brilliantly among a cast of experienced performers. The orphans were amazing, and every time they had their moment on stage they lit up the show with their energy and sass.

Little Molly (played by Trixie Davidson) was a crowd favorite, whilst other characters such as Miss Hannigan (played by Debbie Clancy), Rooster (Grayson Richards), Oliver Warbucks (Richard Baylis), and the butler Drake (Robert Richards) brought the whole stage and atmosphere to life with their comical puns and enthusiasm. Sandy the dog was also a wonderful highlight of the night.

The stage setting and costumes for Annie were beautiful and transported you back to the 1930s. The movable sets were successfully used to seamlessly change scenes, whilst the expertly conducted music was awe-inspiring.

This wonderful production gives the youngest talents the opportunity to shine through, and leaves you humming along to classics such as It’s The Hard Knock Life and Tomorrow

Young and old will find themselves leaving the theatre feeling endlessly positive, and filled with happiness, because “You’re never fully dressed without a smile.”

An audience member summed it up nicely when they said “This was not what I was expecting to see, it was so much better…Brilliant…Well worth it.”
