The hugely popular Pop-Up Globe Theatre Company will hit the stage in New Plymouth later this year.
The multi award-winning Auckland-based company has performed Shakespeare’s plays to more than half a million people and has clocked up sold-out season after sold-out season.
This week the company announced that for the first time they will take their critically-acclaimed productions of Hamlet and Measure for Measure to theatres around the nation.
Both productions will feature bespoke Jacobean costumes and a specially-designed touring set that recreates the scenic design of Pop-Up Globe Auckland.
The lively performances of Shakespeare’s masterworks will feature a highly-experienced cast of local and international actors from around the world.
Pop-Up Globe’s founder and artistic director Dr Miles Gregory says the tour is in response to the huge number of requests the company has received from throughout New Zealand.
“Now, for the first time, we’ve created a touring set and shows that bring all the magic of Pop-Up Globe performances,” he says.
“The blood, the incredible audience connection, the dances and song, and above all the remarkable art of Shakespeare done well.
“Pop-up Globe shows are fast-paced, beautifully costumed, funny, and make a very strong connection with our audiences.”
Gregory says the specially designed set recreates the atmosphere of the Auckland Pop-Up Globe, and includes “seating for some lucky audience members on stage, in the heart of the action.”
Hamlet and Measure for Measure are on at the TSB Showplace from September 4 to 8. Tickets start from $19 and are available from Thursday April 11.
