The musical hasn’t even opened yet, but Priscilla – Queen of the Desert is proving so popular six more shows have already been added to the bill.
New Plymouth Operatic Society’s marketing manager Patrick Landrigan says the show is on a roll and lots of seats have already been snapped up.
“We are well above where Les Miserables and Sister Act were at the same time” he says.
The announcement of six more shows means Priscilla will now have a total number of 16 performances.
The beloved musical is due to hit the stage at the TSB Showplace in June and preparations are going well, Landrigan says.
The show is fully cast, with cast members now in rehearsals and director Stephen Robertson due to arrive in early April.
Production Manager Steve Lloyd says the costumes have also arrived and are being unpacked by the wardrobe team.
“We have had incredible response from our members wanting to be involved in Priscilla” he says.
“Essentially all the backstage teams are now full, and we will have in excess of 250 people involved in Priscilla.
“In a time when our fellow theatre organisations in New Plymouth and around the country are screaming out for helpers and cannot get people, we at New Plymouth Operatic have people falling over themselves to help.
“This shows that people are really valuing their volunteer experience with New Plymouth Operatic, and that our show selections are really resonating with our membership,” Lloyd says.
Priscilla opens at the TSB Showplace on Thursday June 20, and runs through until Saturday July 6. Tickets on sale now via the TSB Showplace Box office or online at ticketek.co.nz.
